FOLK ORCHESTRA LA NOTTE DELLA TARANTA

On the eve of mid-August, as has become a tradition, the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta" lands in Lecce, but this year presents a novelty, because the stop in the Salento capital will be held in the marina of San Cataldo. As was the case two years ago, when an area more peripheral than the central Piazza Sant'Oronzo was chosen, also for this edition, the project aims to enhance other places in the city and its hinterland. It starts at 8 p.m. 00 with the Pizzica Workshop organized by the Taranta Dance Corps, and from 9 p.m. instead, the great protagonist is music and two unmissable shows to greet the night that welcomes the highlight day of the summer: Mario Incudine and Peppe Servillo and the Popular Orchestra La Notte Della Taranta, which after the two extraordinary concerts, one acoustic in the nature reserve of Torre Guaceto and the other in the suggestive Baia di Sant'Andrea, marina di Melendugno, returns to play accompanied by the rhythm of tambourines and the rhythm of the sea.

Mario Incudine and Peppe Servillo's show is a strong message of openness and solidarity to subaltern cultures, particularly marginalized in the time of prevailing globalization. The driving force of the show is the visceral rhythm of the southern regions, which in this one-of-a-kind performance recounts that south of the Saints so dear to Carmelo Bene as well. But the other peculiarity is the ability of the two performers to take turns on stage with their hits and blend into a chorus, often extemporaneous, that makes each performance unique and unrepeatable.

Concert on the sea by the POPULAR ORCHESTRA LA NOTTE DELLA TARANTA with Enza Pagliara, Stefania Morciano, Alessandra Caiulo, Consuelo Alfieri, Antonio Amato, Giancarlo Paglialunga, Salvatore Galeanda and musicians Attilio Turrisi - chitarra battente, Alessandro Monteduro - percussion, Gianluca Longo - mandola, Roberto Gemma - accordion, Peppo Grassi - mandolin, Leonardo Cordella - accordion, Antonio Marra - drums, Roberto Chiga, Alessandro Chiga, Carlo Canaglia De Pascali, Gioele Nuzzo - tambourine, Mario Esposito - bass, Giuseppe Astore - violin, Nico Berardi - woodwinds.

"Two years ago, with the La Notte della Taranta Foundation, we brought the Lecce leg of the festival to the San Giovanni Battista district. It was the first time - says Mayor Carlo Salvemini - of such a popular and beloved event organized in the heart of a popular neighborhood. This year, another first: the stage will be hosted in the marina of San Cataldo, which continues to host some of the top initiatives of the Lecce summer. I would like to thank the Foundation and its president Massimo Manera for sharing with us the desire to have the concert by the sea. We will wait for Ferragosto with the rhythms and energy of popular music that has the ability to bring together different generations in a common involvement," says Lecce Mayor Carlo Salvemini.

"Lecce and La Notte della Taranta have long since started a synergy capable of giving the audience of the capital an unmissable stage of the Notte della Taranta on the eve of mid-August. The beauty of the capital and the extraordinary energy of traditional music are an unbreakable combination. But as happened two years ago, when the Taranta went to the suburbs to bring its rhythm there, this year, too, the chosen venue is unprecedented, so it will be a debut in the Lecce marina of San Cataldo. The Orchestra of La Notte della Taranta will play in front of the sea, a perfect setting for a project that as a Foundation we care a lot about and that we have proposed for this edition, "The Humanity of Water," says La Notte della Taranta Foundation President Massimo Manera.

The theme of this 26th edition is IDENTITY, inspired by Italo Calvino, the writer whose centenary since his birth falls this year: "Identity is a bundle of divergent lines that find in the individual the point of interest," Calvino wrote in "Civilizations of Machines." A theme-world to interpret current reality addressed in lectio magistralis by philosopher Umberto Galimberti guest in Martano on Aug. 24, by Tlon philosophers Maura Gancitano and Andrea Colamedici on Aug. 21 in Martignano, by criminal judge Maria Francesca Mariano on Aug. 19 in Cutrofiano, by journalist Marcello Veneziani on Aug. 23 in Sternatia, by theologian Vito Mancuso on Aug. 8 in Alessano, by writer Stefano Massini on Aug. 17 in Galatina, by journalist and writer Angelo Mellone on Aug. 13 in Galatone.
