AUGUST 9 - UGENTO

9 P.M. SAN VINCENZO SQUARE

PIZZICA IN SCENE by the TARANTA DANCE BODY

MARIA MAZZOTTA

SCAZZACATARANTE in Sciamu Alli Balli

On August 9, the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta" reaches Ugento. On the stage in Piazza San Vincenzo, the evening opens at 9 p.m. with Pizzica in Scena by the Corpo di Ballo Taranta and continues with concerts by Maria Mazzotta whose repertoire is the result of meticulous research and extreme respect for the various cultures that make it up, with particular regard for the vocal characteristics of each musical tradition. In 2023 she presents a new live project as a trio: with her on stage are guitarist Ernesto Nobili and percussionist Cristiano Della Monica.

Afterwards it will be the turn of Scazzacatarante in Sciamu Alli Balli.

Before the music, the opening of the evening sees dance as the protagonist with a "pizzica in scena" project that for several years now has been one of the most interesting and fascinating proposals for the festival's spectators: Pizzica in scena: a moment of performance in dance in which some evocative places in the city or village reached by the traveling web become a natural and evocative setting for the "pizzicato" choreographies.

Maria Mazzotta

Maria Mazzotta is one of the most appreciated voices on the European world music scene. Ranging naturally from the sounds of Southern Italy to Balkan cadences, the repertoire proposed by Mazzotta is the result of meticulous research and extreme respect for the various cultures that compose it, with particular regard for the vocal characteristics of each musical tradition. In 2023 she is presenting a new live project as a trio: with her on stage are guitarist Ernesto Nobili and percussionist Cristiano Della Monica, two eclectic personalities with whom she is recording a new record work that will see the light of day at the end of the year. The electric sounds of post-rock meet Maria's visceral interpretation, creating an original and profound union. The search for this sound is rooted in the past, stemming from teenage listening and a passion for a musical genre that for years the singer from Puglia thought could not become part of her record production. Since January 2020, the year that marked her solo debut with the release of the album "Amoreamaro," her project has touched 25 countries. The new show is the result of all this traveling, encounters and influences, emotions and reflections on modern society. For the first time in her 20-year career, Maria Mazzotta chooses to express the straightforward life force of the country tradition through contemporary, suburban-sounding instruments.

Scazzacatarante

Scazzacatarante is a musical project that began in 1998 in Galatina, when a group of friends united by a passion for pizzica pizzica decided to carry on the Salento folk tradition. The new work proposes different musical styles, bringing together the rhythm of the Salento pizzica with raggamuffin and pachanga. Lineup: Tony De Giorgi (Drum and vocals) Matteo Gaballo (Violin and vocals) Davide Donno (Drum and vocals) Roberto Margati (Soprano sax/ clarinet) Luca Congedo (Acoustic drums) Pantaleo De Pascalis (Accordion) Lorenzo Codazzo (Electric bass).
