On Aug. 11, the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta," makes a stop in Carpignano Salentino. Now in its 25th edition dedicated to the theme "The Tradition of the New," Italy's largest traveling festival crosses 21 towns in Salento from Aug. 4 to 25, with 43 pizzica concerts, more than 400 artists and will lead to the long night of the Concertone on Aug. 27 in Melpignano (Le), with the maestro concertmaster DARDUST, and will be broadcast on RAI 1, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:15 p.m.
Rehearsals for the sound journey between memory and vision of the Concertone, kicked off at the Cinema of Calimera with Dardust and the Notte della Taranta Orchestra.

It starts at 9 p.m. with the music of Folkatomic, a group from Turin that offers a concert of music from the global south. The band starts from the experience gained in the world of Folk reproposal to come across sounds belonging to the universe of electronic music. The evocative and archaic sounds of traditional instruments, combined with the colors and depth of electronic sounds, while respecting traditional rhythmic roots, create an innovative, fresh and contemporary language. The intent is to dialogue through the universal language of folk music, to introduce a wider audience to the beauty of southern dialects and sounds, and to promote diversity by bringing them together under the roof of party and dance music, music that has always united peoples and generations. Folkatomik consists of Valeria Quarta, vocals and drums; Oreste Forestieri, woodwinds and ethnic strings; Daniele Li Bassi, producer; and Franco Montanaro, drums and vocals.

To follow, to perform Officina Zoè. It's pure pulse for dance and trance. An enthralling band with an unmistakable sound. The group's strength is the constant search for trance and cyclicity inherent in the arcane rhythm of tambourines and steeped in minimalism in music and singing. This has made possible, over time, the creation of new musical compositions that sing and narrate the world of today, but deeply anchored in and respectful of the philology and language of tradition. Officina Zoè has recorded 10 albums in its history, and a new album "Hypnotica" a singular journey with an unprecedented encounter with electronics is in the works for 2022. The members of the group are: Cinzia Marzo, vocals, tambourine, ethnic flutes, castanets; Lamberto Probo, frame drums, tammorra, udu, spoons, vocals; Donatello Pisanello, diatonic accordions, mandola, mouth harmonica; Giorgio Doveri, violin, mandola, zither, cupa cupa; Silvia Gallone, frame drums, tammorra, maranzano, vocals; Luigi Panico, guitar, mandola, mouth harmonica, nay; Emanuele PHL Flandoli, sound engineer.

On August 10, the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta," makes a stop in Galatone. Now in its 25th edition dedicated to the theme "The Tradition of the New," the Ragnatela della Taranta, Italy's largest traveling festival, will cross 21 towns in Salento from Aug. 4 to 25, with 43 pizzica concerts, more than 400 artists and will lead, stage after stage, to the long night of the Concertone on Aug. 27 in Melpignano (Le), with the maestro concertmaster DARDUST, and will be broadcast on RAI 1, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:15 p.m.
Rehearsals for the highly anticipated long night of the sound journey between memory and vision kicked off at the Cinema di Calimera with Dardust and the Notte della Taranta Orchestra.
Curated by the Corpo di Ballo della Notte della Taranta, the pizzica workshops return at 7 p.m., unmissable appointments for fans of the Salento dance who gather in the squares of the Festival's host towns to take part in the great dancing patrol. Large inclusive and open circles are formed led by the Taranta dancers who accompany the audience to discover the rhythm of the tambourine and the different expressions of the pizzica: courtship pizzica, pizzica tarantata and pizzica fencing.

Music at 9 p.m. in Piazza San Sebastiano with the Tamburellisti di Otranto. Roots and traditions to be protected and passed on to future generations to remember their essence. Thus was born the idea of Massimo Panarese, a musician from Salento, to put together forty children with a passion for music and a sanguine talent for the tambourine instrument: what comes out is a mix of purest energy, which is linked back to traditions. This sums up the talents of the young group of "Tamburellisti di Otranto," birthed by the artistic - cultural association "Music...ando," desired by maestro Panarese and founded in April 2009, with the intention of bringing children and enthusiasts in general closer to popular music. The Tamburellisti represent a unique piece throughout the country, having established themselves as a real "case," so much so that they have attracted attention and consideration from many quarters: the group's debut took place a little over six years ago, when a small nucleus of 13 baby tamburellisti presented themselves to the public in Otranto, for their first performance. That narrow base, over the months, has grown into an ensemble, consisting of as many as 55 young percussionists.

Next on the stage of the traveling festival were the Kamafei. The word KamaFei is a compound in greek, wanted, sought and thought of by the late Gianni De Santis, which means warmth that flows, that warmth that accompanies the body in every season, which arises from the instruments between the ancient and the modern, the same warmth that is tried to transmit during the concerts which is returned by the audience. Kamafei presents itself to the audience with a show full of energy and full of involvement, a show that starts from respect for the land and roots with an ever-present tambourine that is supported by the innovation of modern instruments with the right balance, Pizzica-Pizzica, with a tambourine that meets modern sounds (never in excessive doses of electric bass notes), vocal melodies attentive to tradition but ready to contaminate and meet with modern styles. The roots of the Salento tradition blend with new sounds and expand to new horizons. The group is composed of: Antonio Melegari, vocals and tambourine; Alessio Giannotta, strings; Vittorio Chittano, accordion; Giovanni Palma, vocals and guitar; Matteo Coppola, drum-set; Marco Palumbo, electric bass.

SCAZZACATARANTE

On August 9, the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta," makes a stop in Cursi. Dedicated to the theme "The tradition of the new," this 25th edition, will cross 21 municipalities of Salento from Aug. 4 to 25, with 43 pizzica concerts, more than 400 artists and will lead, stage after stage, to the long night of the Concertone on Aug. 27 in Melpignano (Le), with the master concertmaster DARDUST, and will be broadcast on RAI 1, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:15 p.m.

At 9 p.m. the music kicks off in Piazza Pio XII with Francesco Loccisano and Andrea Piccioni. "Tradition is keeping the fire alive, not worshipping its ashes " by Gustav Mahler is the musical focus of Francesco Loccisano (beating guitar) and Andrea Piccioni (tambourine, frame drums, live electronics). Tradition is a living, transforming process that is renewed and regenerated through the unceasing work of its bearers. Exploration of modes and sounds symbolic of the millennial Italian tradition, beyond the classification of "popular," in which tradition is used as a starting platform for a dialogue and sound research through which to deconstruct and reconstruct not through simplistic contamination but on the contrary by digging toward the essence and center of sound. April 2022 saw the release of their first album as a duo, entitled UPGRADE, consisting of original pieces in which tradition renews itself in search of new musical languages and frontiers.

The music then continues with the Scazzacatarante, a musical project that was born in 1998 in Galatina, when a group of friends united by a passion for pizzica- pizzica, decided to carry on the Salento folk tradition. With a pinch of innovation, strong charisma and team spirit, they perform in the most important squares of Salento and beyond, trying to make the pressing rhythm of the pizzica-taranta known in Italy. The new work proposes different musical styles, bringing together the rhythm of the Salento pizzica with raggamuffin and pachanga. Lineup: Tony De Giorgi (Drum and vocals) Matteo Gaballo (Violin and vocals) Davide Donno (Drum and vocals) Roberto Margati (Soprano sax/ clarinet) Luca Congedo (Acoustic drums) Pantaleo De Pascalis (Accordion) Lorenzo Codazzo (Electric bass).

CANZONIERE JONICO PIZZICATI INT’ ALLU CORE

The traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta," makes a stop in Nociglia on Aug. 8. A 25th edition dedicated to the theme "The tradition of the new," which from Aug. 4 to 25 will cross 21 municipalities of Salento, with 43 pizzica concerts, more than 400 artists and will lead, stage after stage, to the long night of the Concertone on Aug. 27 in Melpignano (Le), with the maestro concertatore DARDUST, and will be broadcast on RAI 1, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:15 p.m.

The festival stage will light up at 9 p.m. with the music of I Cardisanti, a group born in the wake of the great singers of their own town, Cutrofiano, who will perform the concert "I fiori e le radici," the result of more than 20 years of research into Salento's musical roots and work on sounds to personalize songs with original arrangements. The new show, studied in every detail for the 2022 season, has a strong cultural imprint: it re-proposes the values of the peasant civilization that existed in Salento until very few decades ago and includes, in addition to the pizzica, work songs, love songs, serenades, other traditional songs and a space dedicated to the memory of the old great Salento singers who have contributed in a decisive way to the affirmation of the music of the area as a great cultural resource. The show aims to entertain the audience and at the same time to remember, spread and enhance the values of the peasant civilization. Composing I Cardisanti: Giuseppe Cesari, guitar and narrator; Antonio Polimeno, mandolin, guitar and vocals; Vittorio Chittano, accordion; Alessio Giannotta, mandola and guitar; Marina Leuzzi, vocals; Enzo Polimeno, tammorra and tambourine; Filippo Campa tambourine.

This will be followed by Il Canzoniere Jonico Pizzicati int'allu Core, evidence of some 30 years of folk tradition of the upper Salento and Ionian area, but also a clear manifestation of folk music evolution and contamination. World Music group from the Ionian aera was selected for the Targa Tenco for their album "Sciamu." Their record project between 2019 and 2020 also conquered film festivals around the world thanks to the single of the same name that became a musical short film written and directed by Valerio Manisi, band leader of the Canzoniere. They now offer a research show, combining the folk music of Puglia, upper Salento, and the liveliness of folk with the polyphony of world musics and the importance of different social issues. The group consists of Valerio Manisi, vocals and drums; Claudio De Vittorio, vocals, mandoloncello and bouzouki; Bruno Galeone, accordion; Domenico Nisi, violin; Carlo Massarelli, vocals and horns; Cosimo Pastore, vocals, guitar and beating guitar; Stefano Scatigna, harmonica and mouth and drums; Domenico Pignatelli, bass; and Giacomo Abatematteo, drums.

TAMBURELLISTI DI TORREPADULI

On August 7, the traveling festival "La Notte della Taranta," makes a stop in Sogliano Cavour.

The evening kicks off at 9 p.m. with music from the Fondo Verri- Concert-Recital "Fate solo quel che vi incanta." Antonio Leonardo Verri, has always been confronted with time, clear in telling, describing and defining the origin of his poetic feeling and action and at the same time capable of foreshadowing and foreshadowing the future. Words and language the place of her constant searching, of her con-fusing with sound, "sense," every meaning, every narrative possibility. If she made Verri's words ring in her head before she wrote them down, she would gauge their musicality, if she repeated them, she would tune them with her breath, with the beating of her heart and with the wind. He had an American love Verri: John Cage and many musician friends with whom to compare himself, he did so by standing in listening to silence. The recital concerts texts from: "Bread Under the Snow," "Bucherer the Watchmaker," "The Trophies of the City of Guisnes," "The Harmony Maker," a chorus of voices recited by actors G. Piero Rapanà, Simone Franco, and sung by Daria Falco accompanied by Bruno Galeone's accordion, Emanuele Coluccia on piano and sax, and Vincenzo Grasso on clarinet and Davide Chiarelli on percussion.

Next up is the turn of the Tamburellisti di Torrepaduli. In 1990, researcher Pierpaolo de Giorgi and repository Amedeo De Rosa founded the group "Pierpaolo De Giorgi e I Tamburellisti di Torrepaduli," re-evaluating the "pizzica pizzica" that had been used for centuries in Salento as a folk therapy, and reworking it in a progressive key but with deep respect for tradition. De Giorgi's rigorous studies were joined by the extraordinary dancers and players of Torrepaduli, creating an artistic proposal that is both traditional and innovative. The group has recorded numerous albums, which have met with great favor with the public and marked a decisive turning point in Apulian and Italian folk music. They have always surprised everyone with the virtuosity of percussion, the result of their insistent search for new formulas and rhythmic grooves to apply to the tambourine, with the swirling techniques of dance and with the artistic and poetic content of their songs. The Torrepaduli Tamburellists are: Pierpaolo De Giorgi voice and guitar; Donato Nuzzo accordion and tambourine; Rocco Luca tambourine; Gioele Nuzzo tambourine and deejeridoo; Michele Wilde violin; Anna Costa voice.

IRMA DI PAOLA CHOREOGRAPHER - From Eurovision to the Melpignano Concert

It will be the Apulian Irma Di Paola who will sign the choreographies of the Notte della Taranta Concert scheduled on August 27 in Melpignano (Le).

After the fascinating performance created for Diodato at the Eurovision Song Contest, the Taranto-born choreographer lands on the Taranta stage to create ten paintings on the songs proposed by concertmaster Dardust. From August 7, she will be in the rehearsal room in Castrì di Lecce, with the Taranta Ballet Corps and six professional dancers to make the dance of the pizzica, once again, the key to contemporary choreographic interpretation of traditional folk texts.

"On occasions like these, the expression 'feeling' honored is often used automatically, perhaps losing some of its value. But never more than in this moment, the word 'honor' is the only possible one to define what I feel from the moment my happy wish was fulfilled: to work for my land and in the places where I come from, on the occasion of such an iconic event that is so important for the culture of this territory and the whole country. And it is an honor to have been called upon to make visual the alchemy of musical elements that master concertmaster Dardust has masterfully created to celebrate together 25 years of la Notte della Taranta, said Irma di Paola, during the press conference held in Corigliano d'Otranto at the opening of the Itinerant Festival. My instruments will be 16 dancers, a perfect mix of pizzica dancers and hip-hop and contemporary dancers. The contamination of styles, musically so evident and powerful, will give me the opportunity to work on the atavistic and primordial feeling, the precious engine of the Notte della Taranta, but through the eyes and bodies of those immersed in the contemporary. Tradition and the present become allies and the gaze to the future can light up with wonder."

Established creative director Irma Di Paola began to take her first steps by debuting with Simona Ventura on Quelli che il Calcio, continuing then in successful productions such as Quello che Non Ho with Fabio Fazio and Roberto Saviano, Capitani Coraggiosi with Claudio Baglioni and Gianni Morandi, and again Le dieci Cose with Flavio Insinna, Maledetti Amici miei with Giovanni Veronesi, Alessandro Haber, Rocco Papaleo, Sergio Rubini, and Margherita Buy. She boasts three Sanremo Festivals she has curated. She collaborates on the choreographies for Amici il serale and Danza con me with Roberto Bolle. There is no shortage of theater in her career, with Enrico Brignano's Enricomincio da me and Le storie di Claudia with Claudia Gerini. For film he directs choreography for Checco Zalone's Tolo Lolo, Gianni Amelio's Hammamet, Ozpetek's La Dea Fortuna and many others. He choreographs the most famous commercials for Tim and many other brands. Very important over the years has been his collaboration with choreographer, director, artistic director Luca Tommassini for the realization of various projects, such as the RAI special of Andrea Bocelli Ali di Libertà at Teatro del Silenzio, the Bulgari Cinemagia event. She curates the choreography for the Riki Mania Tour and is the artistic director of Rocco Hunt's Freedom + Revolution Tour. In 2012 with Adriano Bettinelli and Luca Paoloni she gives life to a unique project: Effetto Domino. Thus was born Evento Domino, one of the most coveted and important events in Italy in the sector, with the intent to promote and support artistic projects made in Italy for choreographers and dancers.

In 2016 he opened the doors of Il Deposito Studio in Rome, a multipurpose center for professional and amateur dancers, aimed at supporting physical and mental well-being, as well as the first dance school for the deaf using the Lisda method. In 2020, together with her partner, psychologist Ambra Bianchini, they created the Viscera method that combines dance and the inner world of the dancer.

TARANTA'S LIVES PARK IS BORN

Notte della Taranta Foundation and Olivami Association promote the reforestation of Salento.

First artist olive trees planted: Sparagna, Menamenamò, Mellissinopoulos.

The Ulivi della Taranta Park is born, an expanse of 1,500 new trees that will be planted thanks to the adoption of olive trees by the artists and the audience that invades the squares of the Itinerant Festival every year to the rhythm of pizzica.

A project conceived by the Notte della Taranta Foundation in collaboration with Olivami, the nonprofit association that allows the adoption of an olive tree to help reforest the Xylella-affected Salento. A new form of sustainable and participatory olive growing that offers the opportunity for everyone to remotely adopt one or more olive trees, obtaining an annual supply of Evo oil with certified provenance and quality. For every olive tree that is adopted, Olivami & Taranta will plant a new generation olive tree. The olive trees will be led and cared for by farmers who have decided to join the project. The first three trees were donated by the Foundation to artists Ambrogio Sparagna, Theodoro Mellissinopoulos and Luigi Mengoli founder of the group Menamenamò, protagonists of the first stage of the Festival in Corigliano d'Otranto. Presenting the certificate of adoption were the dancers of the Taranta Ballet Corps, Serena Pellegrino, Stefano Campagna, Lucia Scarabino and Cristina Frassanito.

"You gave me a gift of disarming generosity," Mellissinopoulos said movingly, "you were able to honor a Greek with the gift of an olive tree. It's like you gave a Nobel Prize. You had, as we say, the barbaric courage to baptize an olive tree with my name. I will be eternally grateful."

Through the adoption of the first 100 olive trees, Fondazione La Notte della Taranta has created the first park in Carpignano Salentino that can be visited at any time of the year, and is easily recognizable thanks to the signage and name plates hung on the trees and bearing the names of the Festival and Concertone artists.  The initiative aims to contribute in the long run to offsetting CO2 emissions.

"La Notte della taranta has always been attentive to environmental issues. After the Regeneriamo la Natura project in collaboration with Legambiente, which enabled the redevelopment of Torre Squillace, a result that is there for all to see, today we are trying to restore the Grecìa landscape to its agricultural beauty. Together with Olivami it will be possible to create the first park of olive trees of the Taranta," pointed out Massimo Manera, President of the Notte della Taranta Foundation.

The "Taranta Park" project will feature the planting of a symbolic tree in each of the 12 municipalities of Salento's Grecìa.  Through the QR code, a green path will open that will lead visitors into the park, in a vast plot of land in Carpignano salentino, where young olive trees will restore the landscape line destroyed by the xylella bacteria to Salento.

"We are facing an unprecedented agricultural drama, explains Simone Chiriatti vice president of the Olivami association. This dramatic situation, which has had devastating consequences on labor, landscape and society, obliges us to rethink the land management model. We consider it essential, in addition to the donation of olive trees, to assist farmers in adopting new methods of conduction, using techniques and technologies of precision agriculture and aimed at ensuring biodiversity. Thanks to the Taranta Park project, we will invite the Festival audience to use the tool of tree adoption to participate in the reconstruction of the Salento landscape."

Olivami is an association registered with RUNTS (single national third sector register) committed to the reforestation of the Salento countryside destroyed by Xyella. By promoting the adoption of olive trees, the Olivami association enables companies, organizations and institutions to contribute to the rebirth of olive growing in Salento by financing the planting of new olive trees to replace those affected by Xylella. Everything is represented by colors, every vice and virtue passes through a hue, acoustic and visual, which also represents the growth of man, arriving at a mystical ecstasy represented by the liberation of the soul. ORCHESTRA POPOLARE LA NOTTE DELLA TARANTA

On Aug. 5 for the first time in the history of the itinerant festival "La Notte della Taranta," it makes a stop in San Vito dei Normanni (BR). Now in its 25th edition dedicated to the theme "The Tradition of the New," La Ragnatela della Taranta, Italy's largest traveling festival, will cross 21 towns in Salento with 43 pizzica concerts and more than 400 artists and lead up to the long night of the August 27 Concertone in Melpignano (Le), with master concertmaster DARDUST, and will be broadcast on RAI 1, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:15 p.m.

At 9 p.m. to enchant the crowd with his music, Antonio Castrignanò, musician and singer, is a lucid interpreter of the present. He will also bring to the stage in San Vito dei Normanni the songs from his latest album "Babilonia," which as he defined it is a choral journey outside the borders of Salento to discover different languages and cultures, with the desire to tell about himself and learn about the history of others. Unpublished songs, original arrangements, new experiences, melodies and rhythms that intertwine with souls from other places, such as Sub Saharan Africa, Turkey, India. It starts from the south and goes back south, track after track, dealing with universal themes, nature, work, love, together with artists such as Sona Jobarteh, Enzo Avitabile, Don Rico and Badara Seck, Mercan Dede. A record of Babylonian richness, with all the languages of the world in it, starting with dialect that addresses many universal themes, ancient but very current: the relationship between man and nature, love, work, the feminine. Alongside Antonio Castrignanò (Artistic Production and Musical Direction) voice, tambourine, rhythm section, synthesizer, mandola, there will be: Rocco Nigro, accordion and synthesizer; Luigi Marra, voice, violin; Maurizio Pellizzari, guitars, saz; Giuseppe Spedicato, bass; Gianni Gelao, woodwinds, bouzouki, bagpipe; Guglielmo Dimidri, sound engineer.

This will be followed by a performance by the Orchestra Popolare Notte della Taranta, the Salento folk music group that changed the history of pizzica by exporting it to the world. Founded in 2004 within the Melpignano Concertone, it is now the undisputed leader in the world music scene. Tradition and constant innovation, unique and unmistakable sound, the Orchestra is characterized by the multitude of fascinating sound paths born from the collaborations with the likes of Joe Zawinul, Stewart Copeland of the Police, Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, Salif Keita, LP, Concha Buika, Gregory Porter and again Ludovico Einaudi, Lucio Dalla, Francesco De Gregori, Roberto Vecchioni, Ligabue and with the different musical genres from jazz to rock, from blues to electronic, from classical to rap.

In touring abroad, the Popular Orchestra sets the squares of the world ablaze and represents Italian Popular Culture in the most prestigious international contexts from Argentina to Kuwait, from Chile to Saudi Arabia, from the United States to China. In the past year, the Orchestra has been featured at New Year's Eve at Expo Dubai, Peter Gabriel's Womad Chile, and the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria.

Every year the Orchestra, acclaimed by the public and critics, leads the Concertone di Melpignano, which in the last quarter century has fostered the birth of new groups and new festivals related to pizzica by promoting all activities related to the recovery and revival of popular traditions. The set of songs and dances proposed by the Orchestra during 25 years of the Notte della Taranta today represent a speaking archive of excellence. A fundamental archive, a work of research and study of popular culture, which has formed the basis of everything that the groups, born thanks to the work of promoting the Notte della Taranta, can tell the world today. Numerous musicians and singers have been formed within the Orchestra and today they are the protagonists of a personal journey and transformed traditional songs into hits known to the general public such as: Aria Caddhipulina, Santu Paulu, Calinitta, Aremu, Lule Lule,Lu ruciu de lu mare, L'acqua de la funtana, the extraordinary pizziche di Torchiarolo, Aradeo, di Lizzano, Copertino, Cordella, di Stifani, San Vito.

The band is now composed of singers Enza Pagliara, Stefania Morciano, Alessandra Caiulo, Consuelo Alfieri, Giancarlo Paglialunga, Antonio Amato, Salvatore Cavallo Galeanda and musicians Gianluca Longo (mandola), Peppo Grassi (mandolin), Attilio Turrisi (chitarra battente), Giuseppe Astore (violin) Roberto Chiga, Alessandro Chiga, Carlo Canaglia De Pascali (tamburello salentino), Roberto Gemma (bellows), Nico Berardi (wind instruments), Leonardo Cordella (accordion), Alessandro Monteduro (percussion), Antonio Marra (drums), Valerio Combass Bruno (bass).

At 9.30 pm on stage in Piazza Vittoria the Menamenamò group, directed by Luigi Mengoli, has long been engaged in ethnomusical research that resulted in the collection, and subsequent publication, of over 400 popular songs from Salento. Guardian of a complex cultural experience, which is able, year after year, to enrich itself with new initiatives, it represents a testimony of the extraordinary creativity of popular culture. Among their record series "Salento, the great Salento music" and "Voices and characters of Salento music" started together with the Amaltea publishing house, "Il Sale del Salento / Unipop", with unpublished photographic and textual documents, to testify the sense of a cultural commitment that after so many years is by no means concluded, but is evolving, aspiring to become an important laboratory for the recovery, processing and development of the collective memory of Salento. The group is made up of: Luigi Mengoli, lead vocal and guitar; Rocco Rizzello, vocals; Francesco Rizzello, vocals; Pascal Coppola, clarinet; Roberto Casciaro, euphonium; Daniele De Pascali, flute; Roberto Mengoli, percussion and tambourine.

To follow, to animate the square, the music of Anakrousis Canti e Suoni along the route of the Greeks, is a project by Ambrogio Sparagna with the soloists of the Popular Italian Orchestra of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, and the voices of the children and of the girls of the polyphonic ensemble Orchestra Sparagnina of Corigliano d'Otranto and the warm and splendid voice of Theodoro Melissinopoulos with his repertoire of lyric songs and Hellenic ballads. The project tells the link between the two shores of the Ionian and the Adriatic, the seas that separate but which have always united the peoples that overlook them. Songs and sounds in Greek and in Grica to highlight the link, including sound, between Greece and Salento Greece, but there is no lack of references to the musical traditions of other areas of southern Italy that have developed strong and lasting with ancient Greece. bonds still present in the language, in the music, in the cultural horizon.

SCOOP NOTTE DELLA TARANTA, STROMÆ ARRIVES

STROMAE,

the international star, returns live to Italy on Saturday, August 27, for a special appearance as a guest of the Notte della Taranta in Melpignano (Le), directed by maestro DARDUST.

The multifaceted artist, fresh from the recent release of Multitude, his latest album, will perform for an unmissable, unique and extraordinary performance on the stage of the historic Salento festival, which this year returns to embrace the public and will be broadcast by RAI 1, Thursday, Sept. 1 at 11:15 pm.

Announcing the twenty-fifth edition's super guest during the Festival 2022 presentation press conference were Apulia Region President Michele Emiliano and Master Concertmaster Dardust.

"I thought from the beginning that Stromae was the perfect testimonial for this twenty-fifth anniversary of the Notte della Taranta, Dardust explained. Stromae has made his mark on the world music scene by doing unprecedented stylistic contamination work by bringing together tradition and contemporaneity and musical worlds far apart, arguing that multiculturalism is a treasure to be preserved and spread. The title of his latest album is 'Multitude,' and I think this word can perfectly represent the concept of the recoding and musical contamination work done this year, which still has the idea of always keeping the Popular Orchestra and the repertoire of the Notte della Taranta at the center and then making them travel through space and time. And this is exactly what Stromae does by always emphasizing the multiplicity of musical influences he uses in his works, with the aim of creating a blend of pop and world music, although as he himself says 'I don't think the expression world music makes sense anymore: the truth is that we live in an era in which pop is itself world music.' What we will give the audience of the Notte della Taranta is the very essence of the ritual that returns to be celebrated in the square, embracing the galaxy of the audience, a multitude of stories that moves."

"The Notte della Taranta is an international event strongly linked to our traditions," said Apulia Regional President Michele Emiliano, "every time we descend into an arena, very complex and fascinating at the same time. Thanks to Dardust for being with us and especially for having obtained the availability of Stromae, who almost seems to embody the oldest Apulian identity. It is very important for us to accept these challenges, because Puglia is an infinite set of contaminations of which we can only appreciate the beauty and take on, as the maestro is doing, the task of moving forward, without betraying this method. This strengthens the overall hold of humanity, strengthens politics, economics, culture. Many thanks to Massimo Manera, the mayor and the whole extraordinary team of La Notte della Taranta, which is once again making the cultural glory of Apulia."

"Music is a universal language, and La Notte della Taranta has become an expected event all over the world, so attractive that it has become a travel motivation. Each song, in dialect, allows the local archaic language to be kept alive and vital with a view to rediscovering traditions in order to fully promote the territory. We are proud to be able to celebrate with the Foundation the 25 years of the Notte della Taranta, said Pugliapromozione general manager Luca Scandale, which will be the starting point of another window wide open on new sounds of music, dance, and root culture also because of the broadcast of the event on Rai1 with the support of Pugliapromozione and #weareinpuglia."

An innate alchemist of opposites, the Rwandan-born Belgian singer-songwriter, described as one of the most intriguing and complete performers in the pop environment, Stromae has found the magic formula for mixing rap, afrobeat and Francophone lyrics without forgetting tradition. The albums Cheese (2010) and Racine Carrée (2013), led by the titles Alors On Danse, Papaoutai and Formidable, exceeded all expectations, filled concert halls and conquered dance floors: 4 million albums sold (including 3.5 million physical sales). Stromae has received countless awards, including four Victoires de la Musique, four NRJ Awards, an MTV Award, and has accomplished such historic feats as filling New York's prestigious Madison Square Garden. To date, his discography has some 6.5 billion streams worldwide. Multitude is the other avenue in which Stromae explores the world while remaining firmly connected to his roots. He recently released the new single Mon Amour with the resounding summer collaboration, that with Cuban-born global pop star Camila Cabello.

La Notte della Taranta is a project of the Fondazione Notte della Taranta supported by Regione Puglia, Grecìa salentina, Pugliapromozione.
